She was a young peasant girl when she heard voices compelling her to save France from the British during the 100 Years War. Despite winning stunning victories, she was burned at the stake by the men whose place and nation she had saved. Joan of Arc is one of the most compelling figures in history. At age 17, she donned armor and rode to war, claiming she was sent by God and promising to restore her king to his rightful throne.
